Alcohol - Prevention Initiatives

Much of what HCC does as a Community Coalition is to support the work of our partners.  Below are some examples of what our partners are doing in the community to prevent underage alcohol use.

Sticker Shock

Picture

One of the ways in which HCC prevents underage drinking is through support of our partnership with CAReS and their “Sticker Shock” initiative.  Each year, the Prevention Team at CAReS will go out into the community in participating grocery, convenience, and liquor stores and place stickers or tags on cases of beer and liquor bottles with similar messages as shown below.  You may have also seen this message on yard signs in front of establishments, hanging in the windows of some businesses or on bench advertisements.

Responsible Server Training

CAReS also provides Responsible Server Training.  Although not a requirement in New York State, local businesses are encouraged to offer this training to all staff who sell or serve alcohol.

HCC also maintains a partnership with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.   One of the programs that the Sheriff’s Office provides is the STOP DWI Program.  Please use the link below to learn more about the program, to view resources, and find out about upcoming training and events offered by the Sheriff’s Office.
